RESTORING HOPE, RELEASING POTENTIAL

|
Dear House of Wells PARTNERS, over 3000 children were enriched physically and spiritually every afternoon this quarter because of your partnership with us. 20 children across Kenya and South Africa, who desperately needed various school items, were also blessed with school shoes, uniforms, bags etc; and 7 children in Uganda received full scholarship for the whole of 2024, all because of your generous donations.
We pray that for every seed you have sown into H.O.W, you will receive a mighty harvest, in Jesus’ name.
QUARTERLY NEWSLETTER – January to March 2024
GRADUATION……
We are proud of Nomvuyisi …..she graduated from Nelson Mandela University (P.E., South Africa) in 2021 and went further to do her postgraduate diploma. Here is her story: – “I am Nomvuyisi Wanyaza, 23 years old. I joined H.O.W in 2013. H.O.W enhanced my relationship with God, they taught me how to pray and grow in my faith in Jesus Christ. The House of Wells Tuition Classes really helped to improve my grades in High School and as a result, I got admission into university to study Human Resource Management. I finished my course in 2021 and started my Advanced diploma in 2022. I have now finished my postgraduate Diploma, praise God. It has been a bumpy road, but God has been faithful to me. Thank you House of Wells for all you did for me.”
2 more teenagers GAINED ADMISSION to TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS :-
Kiara (18) has been with H.O.W since grade 2 (7 years old). Throughout her time at H.O.W, she was very committed and participated in various activities including doing presentations, poems and drama at our yearly Teenagers’ Christmas events. Kiara passed her Matric exams with 2 distinctions and got admission to NM University (South Africa) in February 2024, studying to be a teacher. She said the biblical life skills she learnt at H.O.W will be of great help to her now at university and later on in life.
Tayrene (18), joined H.O.W when she was 7 years old. God transformed her life spiritually and morally. She became an inspiration to others and would invite other young people to the H.O,W teenagers’ classes. She described her years at House of Wells as her best years so far. She passed her Matric (end of High School) exams with Distinction and started a Legal Secretary Course in February 2024.
UPDATE on a few of our UNIVERSITY under-graduates
(1) Shaney and Shanice Maree – Twin sisters Shaney and Shanice were with H.O.W for 14 years before they went to university. We featured their story in our Q1 Newsletter in 2021 when they were made prefects in their respective Schools, and in February 2022 when they gained admission to university and started their Bachelor’s degree in Education. There is also a testimony about the twins in our Q3 Newsletter in 2011, when they both prayed for their father to go to church with them on a particular Sunday. To the glory of God, their father gave his life to Jesus that day. He joined the local church where he served until he passed away in 2019. Shaney and Shanice are now in the 3rd year of their 4-year degree, and will graduate in 2025 by God’s grace.
Shaney sent this to us last month – “It’s been challenging to stay true to our belief in God, especially in an environment where not everyone believes in Christ or in keeping their body pure, but the biblical teachings we received at H.O.W has been helpful, and God has kept us. We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone at H.O.W, for the bible lessons, prayers and the Tuition classes.”
(2) Frasia – Frasia is studying Accounting at North West University (S.A.). House of Wells sponsored half of her first year fees at the university. The university gave her a merit bursary for the second year because she passed her 1st and 2nd year very well. However, getting the fees for her final year was challenging, but we thank God that the fees have now been paid and she has started her final year in February 2024.
Her story – “l joined H.O.W when I was 11 and I am now 22 years old. The Biblical mentoring at H.O.W was a huge blessing to me. I became very disciplined and focused, knowing right from wrong. I am glad that l got to know Jesus Christ and accepted Him as my Lord and Saviour, otherwise l would have ended up like the other teenagers around me who were lost, on drugs or pregnant. I passed my Matric exams in 2020 with 3 Distinctions and got admission to study Accounting at NW University in 2021, I am now in my final year”.
(3) Khanyisa (19), joined H.O.W in 2017, in grade 9.
Her story – “From the first day that I visited H.O.W, I felt the love of God, it was noticeable. I was shown love by the leaders, and I felt a sense of belonging. I never wanted to lose that feeling, so I kept attending H.O.W classes. The biblical principles that I was taught at House of Wells have made me who I am today, confident, responsible and aware of who I am in Christ. I am where I never thought I would be, all because of H.O.W. I am currently in the 3rd year of my Analytical Chemistry degree, at Nelson Mandela University (South Africa)”.
(4) Sinesipho – Sinesipho is now in final year at Walter Sisulu University (Mthatha, South Africa), studying BSc. Psychology. He was in H.O.W from 2009 to 2020. In this 2010 Promo video, Sinesipho is the young boy in white (sitting down at the start of the video). Today, he is a young man that loves God so passionately. Glory to God.
(5) Caylonn – is in second year of her Bachelor’s degree (Education). She attended H.O.W classes for about 12 years. She testified of how the biblical programmes at H.O.W enabled her to find her identity in Christ and to build a real relationship with God.
UPDATE FROM VARIOUS NATIONS
KENYA
**A NEW CENTRE IN KENYA – We have started our enrichment programmes at Mashimoni Squatters Primary School in March. 40 children attended on the first day.
**We discovered that two children who recently joined our Centre in Lenana, Praxidis (11) and her sister Fatuma (9), have never attended school. Praxidis has special needs. We are assisting their mother to ensure both girls start school as soon as possible. We informed their mother of a special needs school within the community that Praxidis can attend. We plan to do a follow-up soon.
**More muslim children are embracing the biblical lessons that we teach at our Kibera Centre. They learn and recite the memory verses just like the other children.
UGANDA
**Our January Newsletter featured a report on some children in Uganda, who needed support with their school fees, uniforms, books etc. We are grateful to God that seven of the eight children have now been sponsored for the whole year. We thank all our generous donors who sent in the funds for these children’s school fees, and we trust God that the remaining child’s school fees would be paid soon in Jesus’ name. Below are 3 of the 8 children that have now been sponsored :-
**Henry (17) lost his father several years ago to AIDS. His mother is also HIV positive. Through the generosity of our donors, Mr and Mrs O, Henry was sponsored through secondary school. He is currently doing Certificate in Motor Vehicle Engineering at a Vocational Institution in Kampala, and we thank God that his sponsors have continued to support him. Henry is a testimony of a life transformed by God, and he continues to grow in the knowledge of God.
**Lydia (16) and her sister Flavia (14) are orphans, and also being fully sponsored by Mr and Mrs O. Lydia passed her Primary Leaving Exams (PLE) and has now started secondary school. Flavia is in Primary 7.
GHANA
** The number of children attending our Centre in Ntsakina has increased from 87 to 150 within a month.
** The first Term school report for Isaac and Beauty, the two children that H.O.W is sponsoring for school, is very promising.
NIGERIA
**A young boy, Semilore, used to be very unruly, which made his mother very distraught. He was always disruptive at H.O.W, with no respect for authority. Centre leaders continued to pray for him, counsel him and show him the love of God. He has since encountered Jesus and we have seen remarkable improvement in his behaviour.
SOUTH AFRICA –
(1) Cape Town – House of Wells have started Academic Excellence Programmes at two of our Centres in Cape Town – Imbasa and John Pama. The subjects we cover are Mathematics, English Language, Information Technology, as well as reading and writing. Next Term we will start at Walter Teka and Liwa Centres.
(2) Port Elizabeth – **Kiara Peacock and Tayrene Moos got excellent Matric results (full story above).
**Three of our teenagers have asked for prayers for their parents – to find employment and for them to receive Jesus as their Lord.
ZIMBABWE – Tatenda and Ingirozi, the two orphaned sisters that we are sponsoring in Kwekwe, had good school results last Term. We pray that they will continue to excel in their education in Jesus’ name.
MALAWI – We continued to receive positive feedback from parents of the children who attend our programmes in Blantyre. Parents say they are pleased with the biblical teachings that their children receive at H.O.W, as they can see transformation in their children’s lives.
QUARTERLY HOME VISITS
** In one of the homes that we visited this quarter, we met the father of a young girl, he was recently released from prison, after serving 15 years. The Holy Spirit enabled us to minister to him and his mother, who was very ill. They both gave their lives to Jesus Christ. We thank God for divine restoration in that family.
** Samantha (10), lost her dad recently and her mum is a drug addict. Her grandparents have been the ones taking care of her, as well as 3 other grandchildren who have no parents – Ashleante (14), Curtis (8) & Curtly (5). The grandparents are really struggling to cope. We prayed for them and arrangements are being made for groceries and other support for the family.
**A Moslem family accepted Christ during our visit to Reewan’s home, and said they were happy for their child to attend H.O.W.
**Hope, (7), was abandoned about a year ago. Her mother left her in front of an old woman’s house. The 79 year old woman told us that she has now legally adopted Hope. She thanked us for the lunch that the children take home from H.O.W.
